Billions are flowing into physical AI. Startups, robot makers, and research labs are all racing to build more capable machines.

And yet today’s robots are nowhere near human capability, and will not be for years.

That does not mean they cannot be useful. A robot does not need human-level capability to create economic value. In 2020, language models could not hold a conversation or write software. But they were already earning their keep in translation, search, and document processing. These were narrow tasks, done reliably and at scale. Robotics is reaching that point now.

Using AI robots is not about replacing people. Shifts go unfilled because there is no one left to hire. Some work damages the people who do it: repetitive, heavy, cold, dusty, dangerous. And some things you have wanted to do for years were never possible at all – not because the work is difficult to understand, but because it would take more hours, more repetition, or worse conditions than any human can give.

If today’s AI robots are not that capable yet, why not wait for a better one? Because the advantage is not the robot, it is the data. A robot working on your floor today creates data about your site every day. A competitor who waits creates none. In two years, you will have two years of experience. They will be starting from zero. That head start cannot be bought.
